oxmysql: cannot connect to the database (ECONNREFUSED / access denied / too many connections)
The message
ECONNREFUSED
The AGN server cannot reach its database. Staff are the only ones who can fix it, and it affects everybody.
What you see
- Almost everything on the server breaks at once
- Players cannot load in, or load with no data
- The console fills with the same connection error
What usually causes it
- The database service is stopped or restarting
- Wrong or changed credentials in the connection string
- Connection limit exhausted by a resource leaking connections
- The database host is unreachable
Worth checking first
- Check the database service is running
- Check the connection string host, port and user (never paste the password anywhere)
- Check current connection count against the limit
Safe steps, one at a time
- Player-side: nothing. Wait for the status announcement
- Staff: restore the database service first, then investigate what exhausted it
- Staff: treat this as an incident, not a ticket
