I cannot hear anything in game
Windows can send different sounds to different devices. Usually this is the game talking to a device you are not wearing.
What you see
- No sound at all, or sound from other apps but not the game
- Sound disappeared after plugging in a headset or a monitor
What usually causes it
- Windows is sending sound to a different device (a monitor over HDMI is the classic one)
- The game's audio device was chosen while a different headset was connected
- The app is muted in the Windows volume mixer
- The default playback device and the default COMMUNICATIONS device are different, so voice and game audio go to different places
Worth checking first
- Check the Windows default playback device and the default communications device — the tool reports both
- Check the volume mixer for a muted entry
- Check whether other applications produce sound
Safe steps, one at a time
- Set the headset you actually use as BOTH the default device and the default communications device in Windows Sound settings
- Unmute the game in the volume mixer
- Restart FiveM after changing audio devices — it picks the device up at startup
- If a monitor is connected over HDMI, confirm the sound is not going there
These are suggestions, not instructions. Do only what you are comfortable with, back up anything important first, and stop if a step does not match what is on your screen. Advice, risk and responsibility.
When to stop and ask staff
Not an AGN issue unless game audio works and only other players' voices are silent.
Looks like
Player computer
What staff will need
- Default playback device
- Default communications device
- Whether other apps have sound
Applies to
Independent of AGN version.
