low likely Voice · AGN-KB-VOICE-0005

Microphone cuts out, sounds robotic, or is very quiet

This one is not certain. It is marked likely: the guidance is safe and reasonable, but the diagnosis is not proven for every case. If it does not match what you are seeing, stop and ask rather than pushing on.

Choppy voice is usually the headset link or the network, not the game.

What you see

  • Speech breaks up or cuts in and out
  • Volume is very low or heavily distorted
  • It worsens when the connection is busy

What usually causes it

  • Wireless headset interference or a low battery
  • Packet loss on the network
  • Windows audio enhancements or aggressive noise suppression
  • Microphone boost set too high, causing clipping
  • A shared USB hub with too much on it

Worth checking first

  • Check packet loss and jitter
  • Check whether the headset is wireless and how charged it is
  • Check Windows audio enhancements on the input device
  • Check the microphone boost level

Safe steps, one at a time

  • Test wired instead of wireless if you can
  • Turn off audio enhancements for the microphone in Windows Sound settings
  • Set microphone boost to a moderate level rather than maximum
  • Move the headset dongle away from USB 3 ports and hubs — they interfere with 2.4 GHz audio
  • Fix the packet loss first if the network test flagged it; voice is the first thing to suffer from it

These are suggestions, not instructions. Do only what you are comfortable with, back up anything important first, and stop if a step does not match what is on your screen. Advice, risk and responsibility.

When to stop and ask staff

Escalate only if several players report the same degradation at the same time.
