Out of disk space or a nearly full drive

Windows and GTA V both need working room on the drive. When it runs out, symptoms look random.

What you see

  • Downloads fail part-way
  • The game stutters badly or crashes at random
  • Windows warns about low disk space

What usually causes it

  • The drive holding GTA V, FiveM or the Windows page file is nearly full
  • A very large FiveM cache
  • A fixed, undersized page file

Worth checking first

  • Check free space on every drive involved: Windows, GTA V, FiveM data
  • Check the FiveM cache size
  • Check whether the page file is system-managed

Safe steps, one at a time

  • Keep at least 20 GB free on the drive holding the game and the FiveM cache
  • Clear only the FiveM server cache if it has grown very large
  • Empty the Recycle Bin and use Windows Storage Sense or Disk Cleanup
  • Leave the page file system-managed unless you have a specific reason not to
