Could not find game executable
The message
Could not find game executable
FiveM launches the copy of GTA V you already own, and it cannot find that copy.
What you see
- FiveM stops at startup with this exact message
- FiveM cannot see a GTA V installation it previously used
What usually causes it
- FiveM has no valid path to GTA V's executable
- The game was moved, uninstalled, or its drive changed letter
- The folder chosen is a parent or launcher folder rather than the one holding the game executable
Worth checking first
- Confirm the GTA V folder still exists and contains the game executable
- Confirm the drive holding it is connected
- Note which store the copy came from
Safe steps, one at a time
- Launch GTA V once from Steam, Epic or the Rockstar Games Launcher so the store repairs its own path
- Start FiveM again and point it at the folder that CONTAINS the game executable
- If the executable is genuinely missing, verify the game files through that store
- Cfx.re documents this one directly — see the client-issues page linked on this entry, which points at Cfx support article 8016804120604
These are suggestions, not instructions. Do only what you are comfortable with, back up anything important first, and stop if a step does not match what is on your screen. Advice, risk and responsibility.
When to stop and ask staff
Not an AGN issue. Escalate to Cfx.re support if the path is demonstrably correct and FiveM still refuses it.
Looks like
FiveM / GTA V installation
What staff will need
- Screenshot of the message
- Store the copy came from
- Whether the tool detected the executable
Applies to
Independent of AGN version.
