Error loading component (a named .dll)

The message

Error loading component

One of FiveM's own parts would not load. Its list of cached components is stale and needs clearing.

What you see

  • FiveM fails at startup naming a component .dll
  • The same file is named every time

What usually causes it

  • Corrupted cache files. Cfx.re documents this as the cause and names caches.xml specifically
  • An interrupted FiveM update

Worth checking first

  • Note the exact file name from the message
  • Check whether the message names adhesive.dll specifically — that one has a different cause and its own entry
  • Check the FiveM application-data folder exists and is readable

Safe steps, one at a time

  • Close every FiveM process first
  • Delete caches.xml from the FiveM application-data folder. This is the smallest fix Cfx.re documents and it is the one to try first
  • If that does not clear it, Cfx.re's documented fallback is to delete the whole FiveM application-data folder and run FiveM again. That is heavier: FiveM re-downloads its components and you lose your FiveM settings and saved server list, though it does NOT touch GTA V
  • The Support Assistant will do the caches.xml step for you, after showing you exactly what it will remove and asking you to confirm

These are suggestions, not instructions. Do only what you are comfortable with, back up anything important first, and stop if a step does not match what is on your screen. Advice, risk and responsibility.

When to stop and ask staff

Not an AGN issue.

Looks like

FiveM / GTA V installation

What staff will need

  • Exact file name
  • Whether caches.xml alone fixed it
  • Antivirus product if files keep disappearing

Applies to

Independent of AGN version.
