Performance drops on hardware that should cope

This one is not certain. It is marked likely: the guidance is safe and reasonable, but the diagnosis is not proven for every case. If it does not match what you are seeing, stop and ask rather than pushing on.

When the usual causes are ruled out, FiveM's developers can read a performance recording to see what is actually eating the time.

What you see

  • Frame rate well below what the hardware suggests
  • Drops that do not line up with obvious settings problems

What usually causes it

  • Something specific to this machine that a checklist will not find
  • Server-side load, which affects everyone rather than one person
  • Overlays, background software, or storage bottlenecks

Worth checking first

  • Rule out the cheap causes first: the graphics-performance entries in this library cover settings, overlays, integrated GPU and disk space
  • Compare single-player frame rate against AGN
  • Ask whether other players report the same at the same time

Safe steps, one at a time

  • Work through the graphics and performance checks first โ€” they resolve most cases
  • If nothing explains it, Cfx.re asks for an ETW trace so their developers can see where the time goes. The client-issues page links the instructions (Cfx support article 8366604193436)
  • An ETW trace is a performance recording of your PC. Read what it captures before sharing it, and share it with Cfx.re rather than posting it publicly

These are suggestions, not instructions. Do only what you are comfortable with, back up anything important first, and stop if a step does not match what is on your screen. Advice, risk and responsibility.

When to stop and ask staff

Escalate to AGN if several players report simultaneous drops โ€” that is server-side. Escalate to Cfx.re with a trace if it is one machine and unexplained.

Unknown โ€” needs staff review

What staff will need

  • Single-player vs AGN frame rate
  • Full settings
  • Overlay list
  • Whether others are affected

Independent of AGN version.
