Graphics driver is significantly out of date
Graphics drivers get fixes for games regularly. A very old one is worth updating before chasing anything more complicated.
What you see
- Crashes, visual corruption or poor performance with no other explanation
What usually causes it
- The driver shipped with the PC has never been updated
Worth checking first
- Record GPU name, driver version and driver date
Safe steps, one at a time
- Install the current driver from AMD, NVIDIA or Intel directly
- On laptops, use the laptop maker's driver if the generic one will not install
- Restart afterwards and retest before changing anything else
