FiveM cache database is locked or cannot be opened

This one is not certain. It is marked likely: the guidance is safe and reasonable, but the diagnosis is not proven for every case. If it does not match what you are seeing, stop and ask rather than pushing on.

FiveM keeps a small database of downloaded server files. Something else is holding that file open, so FiveM cannot use it.

What you see

  • FiveM fails at startup or when beginning a server download
  • The problem persists across restarts
  • It began after a crash, a forced shutdown, or a power loss

What usually causes it

  • A previous FiveM process is still running and holding the cache open
  • The cache database was left half-written by a crash or forced shutdown
  • Antivirus or a backup/sync tool is holding the file open
  • The FiveM application-data folder sits in a synced folder (OneDrive/Dropbox)

Worth checking first

  • Check Task Manager for a FiveM process still running
  • Check whether the FiveM application-data folder is inside OneDrive or another sync folder
  • Check free space on the drive holding the cache

Safe steps, one at a time

  • Close every FiveM process (the Support Assistant can list and close stale ones after you confirm)
  • Restart the PC to release any remaining lock
  • Clear ONLY the FiveM server cache, after reading the warning — you will re-download server assets on next join
  • If the data folder is inside OneDrive or similar, move FiveM's data out of the synced location

These are suggestions, not instructions. Do only what you are comfortable with, back up anything important first, and stop if a step does not match what is on your screen. Advice, risk and responsibility.

When to stop and ask staff

Not an AGN issue. Escalate only if clearing the cache and restarting does not help, which points at disk or antivirus problems on the PC.
