FiveM component or DLL fails to load (adhesive, botan, DLL not found)

This one is not certain. It is marked likely: the guidance is safe and reasonable, but the diagnosis is not proven for every case. If it does not match what you are seeing, stop and ask rather than pushing on.

FiveM is made of several files that load at startup. One of them is missing or has been altered — most often by antivirus software being cautious.

What you see

  • FiveM fails during startup, before the server list
  • The same named file appears in the message every time
  • It started after an antivirus alert or a Windows update

What usually causes it

  • Antivirus quarantined or modified a FiveM component
  • The FiveM update downloaded incompletely
  • The FiveM folder is on a drive with errors, or the files are read-only
  • Windows is missing a required Visual C++ runtime

Worth checking first

  • Check the antivirus quarantine/history for the named file
  • Check free space and drive health on the FiveM drive
  • Check whether Windows is fully updated

Safe steps, one at a time

  • Look in your antivirus quarantine and restore the FiveM file if it was removed, then add the FiveM folder as an exclusion — do not switch protection off
  • Let FiveM update itself completely, on a stable connection
  • Install the current Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft
  • If the file is still missing, reinstall FiveM itself (this does not touch GTA V)

When to stop and ask staff

Not an AGN issue. Escalate only if the same component fails on a freshly installed FiveM on a clean profile.
