FiveM update or component download fails

This one is not certain. It is marked likely: the guidance is safe and reasonable, but the diagnosis is not proven for every case. If it does not match what you are seeing, stop and ask rather than pushing on.

FiveM downloads its own updates from the FiveM project's servers. This step failed, which is usually the connection rather than your game.

What you see

  • FiveM will not finish updating
  • The download restarts or stalls at the same point
  • Other downloads on the same PC are fine

What usually causes it

  • The connection dropped or is filtered (school/work network, captive portal)
  • DNS resolution problems reaching the update host
  • Antivirus or a firewall blocking FiveM's updater
  • Disk full or write-protected

Worth checking first

  • Run the network checks in the Support Assistant (DNS, latency, packet loss)
  • Check free disk space
  • Check whether the same download works on another network, such as a phone hotspot

Safe steps, one at a time

  • Retry on a stable connection; if you are on Wi-Fi, try wired or move closer to the router
  • Try a well-known public DNS resolver temporarily if DNS lookups are failing
  • Make sure FiveM is allowed through the firewall — allow it, do not turn the firewall off
  • Free up disk space if the drive is nearly full

These are suggestions, not instructions. Do only what you are comfortable with, back up anything important first, and stop if a step does not match what is on your screen. Advice, risk and responsibility.

When to stop and ask staff

Not an AGN issue — this is FiveM's own updater and Cfx.re's CDN. Escalate to AGN only if the failure is downloading AGN server assets rather than the FiveM client itself.

What staff will need

  • Exact message
  • Network test results
  • Whether another network works
