FiveM will not start because it is already running

Your last session did not shut down fully, so the new one refuses to start alongside it.

What you see

  • Double-clicking FiveM does nothing, or briefly flashes
  • A message about another instance appears
  • It follows a previous crash

What usually causes it

  • A FiveM or GTA V process survived the last crash
  • The Rockstar Games Launcher is still holding the game open

Worth checking first

  • List FiveM, GTA V and Rockstar processes in Task Manager

Safe steps, one at a time

  • Close the leftover FiveM / GTAV / Rockstar processes — the Support Assistant will list them and close them only after you confirm
  • If unsure, restart the PC, which is always the safe version of this step
